Abstract

This paper examines the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:1–13 as a form of spiritual empowerment to become witnesses of Christ. Through a literature review and biblical exegesis approach, this study emphasizes that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is not merely a spiritual experience or personal sanctification, but rather the fulfillment of God's promise to equip believers with divine power in carrying out the mission of preaching the Gospel. The findings of this study indicate that Luke, as the author of Acts, views the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in charismatic, historical, and theological contexts. The event of Pentecost serves as the theological foundation for all subsequent experiences of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts. This confirms that the Holy Spirit is given not as a means of salvation, but as a means of empowerment that results in a transformative life and effective witness. This article also critiques understandings that focus solely on outward manifestations, and returns the focus to the primary purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit: to become effective witnesses of Christ.
